With Respect to Opera

Author(s): Nicholas Tarling

Music

This book offers essays on a number of the author's favourite operas, well known and little known. The theme that runs through them is that the contemporary productions of such works should respect the aims of those who created them - this book is not only about opera, but a call for a respectful way of presenting opera. As an historian, Nicholas Tarling has looked for and listened to what the librettist and composer were trying to do.
